Skin Tightening Treatment

As the skin loses the collagen and elastin that once made it firm and supple, sagging skin starts to develop. Skin laxity is a common aging concern that frequently leads to the formation of wrinkles, deep facial creases, jowls, and midface volume loss. In the past, surgical treatments were the only effective solutions for sagging skin. Fortunately, that is no longer the case.
At Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania in the greater Philadelphia area on the Main Line in Devon, Jordan V. Wang, MD, MBE, MBA and the board-certified dermatologists offer a number of laser and energy-based treatments to tighten sagging skin. Our physicians have extensive experience in performing nonsurgical skin tightening treatments, such as Genius® RF microneedling, PicoPlus®, Fraxel® Dual laser therapy, and Sofwave ultrasound treatments. With expert precision, our dermatologists can customize your treatment to deliver the ideal outcome for you.
How do skin tightening treatments work?
Skin laxity develops when collagen — an essential protein that helps support the dermis — starts to deplete. Collagen keeps your skin firm, supple, and buoyant during your youth but its production declines over time. Many individuals begin losing collagen in their 20s and 30s, causing the skin to thin and sag. Other factors, such as cigarette smoke, environmental pollutants, and sun exposure, can accelerate the rate at which collagen depletes.
The experienced physicians at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania utilize the most advanced laser and energy-based technology to stimulate new collagen production and strengthen existing fibers. These treatments penetrate deep into the dermal layers to repair damage at a cellular level. As a result, patients are left with tighter, firmer, clearer skin.
Do skin tightening treatments hurt?
Skin tightening treatments are significantly less painful than surgical procedures. Most treatments are comfortable and require little more than topical numbing creams to minimize any accompanying pain. In addition to topical anesthetics, many of our laser and energy-based devices include cooling settings to protect your skin.
When will I see results?
Most patients experience noticeable improvements in their skin elasticity within a couple of weeks of treatment. Since non-surgical skin tightening treatments are designed to stimulate collagen production, your results will continue to improve over the next 1-6 months.
How long is the recovery time?
Non-surgical skin tightening treatments require very little downtime in most cases. Depending on the treatment you choose, you may be able to resume your normal activities shortly after your session. More intense laser treatments do involve about 1-2 weeks of downtime, but they tend to produce longer-lasting results. No matter which skin tightening treatment you choose, avoiding sun exposure is essential for a healthy recovery while you heal.
Do men undergo skin tightening treatments?
Yes. Many men undergo skin tightening treatments at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 125,000 men underwent laser skin resurfacing in 2020 alone. While men can certainly benefit from skin tightening treatments, it’s important that they find qualified dermatologists to perform these procedures.
Men tend to have thicker skin and different treatment goals than women. At Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania, our board-certified dermatologists undergo extensive training to understand the subtle nuances that make male skin unique.

FAQ
Q: Are Skin Tightening Treatments Safe?
A: Yes. Every device we use at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania is FDA-approved. Our board-certified dermatologists undergo extensive training to ensure we provide the safest, most effective treatments possible.
Q: How Long Do the Results Last?
A: How long your results last depends on the type of treatment you choose. Superficial treatments typically produce fast results with very little downtime. However, these treatments also require frequent maintenance. More intense treatments can deliver more visible, longer-lasting results, but they typically take longer and involve more downtime.
Q: Are There Any Side Effects?
A: Redness, swelling, and bruising are common side effects of skin tightening treatments. The skin may look inflamed in the way it does after a sunburn. Superficial treatments cause mild, temporary side effects, while the effects of more intense protocols take about 1-2 weeks to subside.
Q: Will My Face Look and Feel Unnatural?
A: Skin tightening treatments utilize your body’s natural processes to transform the skin on a cellular level. Your results will look completely natural, giving you a fresher, younger-looking appearance.
Q: Are Skin Tightening Treatments Right for Me?
A: Skin tightening treatments may be right for you if your skin has recently started to sag, particularly around the jawline and midface. Some treatments are even effective at tightening skin on the neck, chest, and upper arms.
