At the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania, we are proud to offer the opportunity to enroll in research studies through the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. Not only is this practice one of the largest cosmetic, laser, and medical dermatology clinics worldwide, but it also boasts a full-time, on-site research center.

UPPER ARM SKIN LAXITY
Concern:Â Skin laxity on the upper arms
Study Specifics:Â Looking for men and women who are 35-70 years of age and who have loose, wrinkled, and lax skin on the upper arms. Participants will have their upper arms treated with an ultrasound device. This study will last 4 months and consist of 2 treatment and 1 follow-up visit. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits. Participants must not have excessive subcutaneous fat on the upper arms or previous surgery in the treatment area.
Compensation:Â Up to $120 per patient
WRINKLED SKIN ON THIGHS AND HANDS
Concern:Â Crepey and wrinkled skin on front of thighs and back of hands
Study Specifics:Â Looking for men and women who are 20-65 years of age and who have crepey and wrinkled skin on the front of the thighs or back of the hands. Participants will be given a topical skincare regimen to use daily. This study will last 3 months and consist of 4 follow-up visits. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits.
Compensation:Â Up to $450 per patient

FACIAL WRINKLES & SUN DAMAGE
Concern: Wrinkles and sun spots on the face
Study Specifics: Looking for men and women who are 40-65 years of age and have moderate wrinkles and sun spots on their face. Participants will have their face treated with a laser and radiofrequency microneedling device to tighten the skin and lighten brown spots. This study will last for 6 months and consist of 4 treatment and 2 follow-up visits. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits.
Compensation: Up to $300 per patient
ACNE SCARS
Concern:Â Acne scars on the face
Study Specifics:Â Looking for men and women who are over 22 years of age and who have acne scars on the face. Participants will have their face treated with an ultrasound device. This study will last 4 months and consist of 3 treatment and 1 follow-up visit. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits. Participants must not have had isotretinoin in the last 6 months, Botox in 6 months, laser resurfacing or skin-tightening treatments in 6 months, or chemical peels in 12 months to the treatment area.
Compensation:Â Up to $160 per patient

NEVUS OF OTA
Concern: Nevus of Ota lesion on the face
Study Specifics: Looking for men and women who are over 18 years of age with a Nevus of Ota lesion on the face. Participants will have the Nevus of Ota treated with a laser that targets pigment. This study will last for up to 11 months and consist of up to 5 treatments and up to 13 follow-up visits. A biopsy may be included to guide and improve treatment results. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits.
Compensation: Up to $1,150 per patient; additional compensation for biopsies

VERTICAL NECKBANDS AND JAW CONTOURING
Concern: Vertical neckbands at contraction
Study Specifics: Looking for men and women who are over 18 years of age and who have vertical (platysma) neckbands looking for neck and jawline contouring. Participants will have their neck and jawline areas treated with an injectable neurotoxin. This study will last 4 months and consist of 1 treatment and 6 follow-up visits. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits. Participants must not have had Botox in the last 6 months, fillers in 18 months, or any laser resurfacing, radiofrequency, ultrasound, or chemical peels in 6 months to the treatment area.
Compensation:Up to $700 per patient.
Acne Scars in Darker Skin Types
Concern: Acne scarring in darker skin types
Study Specifics: Looking for men and women who are 18-65 years of age and have a darker skin type. Participants must have acne scars on the face, including their cheeks. Participants will have the areas of their face treated with a superficial resurfacing laser. This study will last 7 months and consist of 4 treatment and 2 follow-up visits. Photographs will be taken of the treatment area at all visits.
Compensation: Up to $450 per patient
INFLAMMATORY ACNE ON THE FACE
Concern:Â Inflammatory acne on the cheeks and chin
Study Specifics: Looking for participants who are over 16 years of age with moderate inflammatory acne on the cheeks and chin. Participants should have at least 15 inflamed and active pimples. Participants will be treated with a 1726nm laser that targets sebaceous glands. Early data shows 90% efficacy at one-year follow-up. This study will last for up to 16 months and consist of 4 treatments and 8 follow-up visits. Participants must not have had isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months. Participants agree to avoid non-study acne treatments.
Compensation: Up to $1,700 per patient

With renowned dermatologists Roy G. Geronemus, M.D., and Jordan V. Wang, MD, MBE, MBA, at the helm, the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York is one of the largest on-site dermatologic research centers in the world. The center’s full-time research department occupies an impressive 1,500 square feet of space to carry out their investigative explorations.
The dermatologists at the center, which spans more than 30,000 square feet, are pioneers in their field, known for their groundbreaking research on hair removal, resurfacing, leg vein, pigmented, and vascular lasers. They have also completed extensive research on the safety and efficacy of a variety of cosmetic fillers, wound care treatments, topical solutions, and photodynamic therapy.
Conveniently located in the center of New York City, with a referral network of over 100,000 patients on a local, national, and international level, the Laser & Skin Surgery Center’s research branch offers the perfect setting for recruiting participants for clinical trials. The center maintains a longstanding relationship with a self-contained Institutional Review Board that allows the full-time researchers to conduct expedited protocol evaluations. With a fully equipped research department, the team assists in the timely and efficient execution of study trials. They have vast experience in all aspects of dermatologic research, including protocol preparation, patient enrollment, photography, and computer imaging.
Advanced imaging devices can effectively evaluate patients and collect vital data for medical and cosmetic dermatologic research. Cutting-edge imaging devices are used to examine patients and record accurate research data. Every patient receives high-resolution digital photography that is precisely standardized to assure the highest level of accuracy. With the Vectra 3D Imaging system, the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York’s research division can access 360o patient photography. As a result, the system produces high-quality photos and highly precise measurements for case assessment, treatment planning, and pre/post-operative review.
